A bit of news on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
It should be no surprise that I’m excited about a new Castlevania coming to consoles. And we have talked quite a bit about Castlevania and how the series has evolved into a franchise of multiple genres. One of those genres is the 3D action game genre.
When people talk about this genre they immediatly think of games like God of War, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden; What they don’t think of is Castlevania even though the series made it’s first appearance in the genre even before Ninja Gaiden and God of War did in early 2003 with Lament of Innocence. For those that enjoy these types of titles and have an interest in Castlevania I highly suggest giving this “origin story” a shot. It won’t blow you away, but it’s definitely a competent title. It featured whip combos that were unlocked over time similar to the other games mentioned. It also used a fixed camera which would later be seen in the God of War games.
Well, it has been reveled by David Cox, producer of the game, that Lords of Shadow will also use this fixed camera type. This is good news for me. I feel that the hands off camera in God of War and even Lament of Innocence really helps with the action gameplay.
Also mentioned and slightly more interesting news is that the PS3 is taking on the role of lead platform for Lords of Shadow. This is great news for gamers that only have a PS3 since they won’t have to put up with a crappy port. *coughBayonettacough* But have no fear 360 only gamers, Mr. Cox said on his twitter feed that “the game is identical on both formats.”
Great news David, thanks a lot!
Stay tuned as I will most definitely be reporting news about this iteration of the series most close to my heart as I hear about it.
Later people.
I don’t want 360 owners to suffer, I really don’t. I just want them to know how I feel right now. Desperately clawing through the wreckage and the rubble to get to the juicy goodness inside.
This news excites me. Firstly because as it’s a western developed title, it will be a very well rounded game, rather than the Japanese games of this kind that either focus entirely on the combat or the adventuring. This kind of focus on one game-play element and treating others like afterthoughts is what keeps games like Bayonetta out of GOW’s reach for me (only just though). The developer doesn’t have the greatest track record, and this franchise doesn’t have a very good 3D repertoire at all, but I remain optimistic. The recent trailer has excellent voice acting and the combat doesn’t look bad.
