woot!
Im a new listener (i’ve been listening since episode 87) and I love the podcast. However for me and most the people i know that play the GT series dont play it for the backgrounds, we play it for the quality of simulation that the game provides. I have been to a couple of the tracks in person that are in GT and was surprised when i realised how true to life the digital versions are. Suzuka and Nurbergring are spot on with the backgrounds. They show exactly what is at these tracks and nothing more because it is a simulation, not a hightened reality. I am a die hard drivng game fan and own just about every game, regardless of console, that is on the market and while forza 3 is a great game to tide me over for now, come March (hopefully) i know ill be making the switch to GT5 simply because the physics in the demo they released are far more realistic than forzas. And for those that say GT5 is going to be a bad game because its demo is to hard, its locked on professional (which is the only way to play if you ask me), there will be easier levels of difficulty and aids for beginers, and also pushing cars to their limit aint supposed to be easy. The line from the cover says it all “Real Driving Simulator”, not realish to make it a bit easier and look a bit better. Sorry Ive rambled on but i needed to vent as ive heard this argument to many times and said nothing. Not that it matters anyway.
Artimus, we weren’t complaining about the accuracy of the backgrounds, just the quality of them. I know the tracks are accurate. I think I mentioned that on the show. And the visuals on the cars are gorgeous, but it would be nice to see great looking backgrounds as well. Now… they may end up looking fantastic in the end, and I hope they do, b/c nothing takes me out of a racing game more than seeing an ugly pixelated tree from my gorgeous Evo X.
Definitely won’t say GT is bad… ever. I have all 4 up to now and will probably get 5, and do agree that it is the most realistic of the driving sims.
I listened to the podcast again with a cooler head and I see what you mean and understand your point much better now. I agree that the graphical fidelity of crowds and trees etc. could definately be better and also hope they do get better and agree with your pixelated tree point. As I said I have heard arguments in this area alot lately and jumped on yours without really listening to what you said so im sorry for that. Having said that I feel it works the other way as well. Nothing takes me out of a game more than racing on a track that is real world and seeing something i know for a fact is not there, ugly and pixelated or not. I appreciate your even response to my combative post and will try to get a clearer viewpoint of what you are saying before I jump to conclusions and down your throats in the future. Look forward to next cast.
